Isaiah 40:6–8 sets the fading flower beside the word of our God, which shall stand for ever. That contrast feels close to home: so much we depend on can change, yet the LORD’s word remains sure. This song gives us a quiet moment to hold onto what lasts and let the rest fall into its proper place.

Lyrics

All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. shall stand for ever.
